Regeneration and the younger generation

By helping 18-24 year-olds, we’ll give a deprived London borough a boost

Hot on the heels of contracts recently awarded to us by Newham and Haringey come two more from adjoining Hackney. The Council’s ‘Team Hackney’ has just lined us up to handle two of their three major Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) projects. Between February 2007 and March 2008, these projects will see us place at least 200 18-24 year-olds into sustained employment. One specifically targets worklessness among young black males, while the other reaches out to Orthodox Jewish, Muslim, Turkish and other young people in the borough.

“The award of these contracts makes us one of the largest deliverers of NRF projects in London,” says Mukesh Oza, Business Development Manager, “And we’re particularly pleased that we’ll be helping to boost employment in another of London’s most deprived boroughs. In the run-up to the Olympics this strengthens our position as a key local provider – delivering in four of the five host boroughs”

The contracts are aimed at outreaching to young people who are not supported by Jobcentre Plus programmes. To deliver it, we’ll work closely with existing Partners, each with a strong Hackney presence, to provide a full range of services that boost employability.

The contract also enables a full-strength team return to premises at 159 Hoxton Street, supported by our other key partners – the Shoreditch Trust.
